Takehiko Okamoto

1934-2016. Born in Yokosuka, Japan.

 

Takehiko Okamoto was born in Yokosuka,Kanagawa prefecture in 1934. While a student at Yokosuka High School, he aspired to be a painter and studied painting at Tama Art University.

In 1963, he moved to New York, the center of world art, where he became familiar with the latest movements and explored the expressive possibilities of shaped canvases.

After returning to Japan in 1968, he lived and worked in Fukushima and Tokyo, making colored reliefs on acrylic sheets. In 1992, he established a studio and residence in Yoshii-machi (presently part of the city of Takasaki) in Tano-gun,Gunma prefecture. He has continued to experiment energetically With semi-three-dimensional paintings made of plywood and metal, dismantling and reassembling them.
